It was chance they say

That brought them together that day.

He was a tall, slender rough skin lad

While she, a short, squatty gal named Thad.

He had a gun slung low on his hip,

And she had a knife tucked under her slip.

They both hit the bank at the very same time

The quest included more than a dime.

He at window one and she at window two

The notes appeared, both written in blue.

"Give me your loot before I shoot"

"Give me the cash or it’s you I’ll slash"

Two tellers went to empty the vault.

She looked at him wondering, "who's at fault?"

He smiled back in a sheepish style,

But never thought they’d be friends in a while.

The tellers arrived with one sack, not two.

This left the thieves wondering what to do.

The wonderment left as they each grabbed the sack

And ran for the door trying not to look back.

His grip won out as they mounted two horses,

And quickly abandoned the town on separate courses.

Thad headed west with no special destination,

While he headed north without hesitation.

He had a hideout tucked in Canyon Diablo,

And arrived there that night without any trouble.

Thad followed the river to cover her trail,

Ending up heading north feeling lonely and pale.

Darkness fell round as Thad did roam,

But the smell of the fire brought her to his home.

Looking inside and remembering that face,

She threw open the door and entered his place.

"Don’t reach for that gun you low down snake,

Just fix me some grub on that other plate."

Heaped high as he could with beans and bacon,

He brought it to her with body shaken.

"Mind if I eat what’s left in the pot?"

The retort didn’t answer the question he thought.

"Where’s all that money you stole from me?

You got it with you or under a tree?"

"I’ve got it right here tucked under the bed,

I’ll be happy to share it with you once I’m fed."

It started that way for this couple so rare.

The story ends now, but their lives they did share.
