“Missy Mu, what would you like to do?
It’s a lovely day…I’ve checked the view.”
Mr. Mu smiled at the youngest Mu,
who had only just turned two.
“Zoo Daddy, zoo!” cried Missy Mu.
“I go to the zoo, you come too!”
“Okay Missy Mu, let’s go to the zoo.
I know it’s your favorite thing to do.”
They drove through the town and past fields too.
They drove and drove till they got to the zoo.
“Let me finish tying your shoe.
Then we’ll go visit the kangaroo.”
Missy Mu jumped on one foot, then two.
“Look at me Daddy, I’m a kanga too!”
Mr. Mu laughed. “You’re quite the roo, aren’t you?
Let’s hop together, just me and you.”
They hopped and bopped until they came to
a very large cage painted sky blue.
“Look Daddy, look!” shouted Missy Mu.
“That kangaroo has a baby too!”
“So it does,” answered Mr. Mu.
“It wasn’t here last time, it must be new.”
“Daddy, he’s hiding in his mom’s tummy, it’s true.
I saw him playing peek-a-boo.”
“I saw what he was up to, Missy Mu.
I think he’s having a game with you.”
Missy Mu covered her big eyes of blue,
then shouted “Peek-a-boo, I see you!”
“Let’s hurry along, there’s more to do.
We can say hello to the cockatoo.”
The bird flew right towards her and let out a coo.
“How do you do, Mr. Cockatoo?”
Asked a shy Missy Mu.
The friendly bird answered with a cat-like mew.
“That birdie is funny, Daddy,” said Missy Mu.
“I never heard one talk like a cat, have you?”
“No I haven’t,” replied Mr. Mu.
“But we’ll need to run to see all of the zoo.”
Off they went, Missy and Mr. Mu,
to look at all of the animal crew.
They saw llamas and tigers and a herd of gnus,
and a roly-poly panda bear eating bamboo.
They saw wooly sheep, with both lambs and ewes,
and a family of monkeys all the way from Peru.
They finally ran out of things to do,
and a big yawn escaped from Missy Mu.
“It’s time to go home,” said Mr. Mu.
“I think you’re worn-out, and I am too.”
“Love you Daddy,” whispered Missy Mu.
“Thanks for taking me to the zoo.”
