If I Were A Baby Bear
by Kathie Harrington
If I were a baby bear
I’d be called a cub.
I’d like to sit and eat all day
And have my tummy rubbed.
Or perhaps I’d rather be a cow,
Then I’d be called a calf.
I’d munch on clover all day long
But then I couldn’t laugh.
Bunnies live in burrows
And when born, they have no fur.
You would think of me at Easter
Of that I’m very sure.
A giraffe would be a silly thing
I would be so tall.
I’d walk around and eat off trees.
No one would ever call me small.
A lamb is small and fluffy white.
His fleece is soft and full.
I’d grow up to be a sheep you know
And my fleece could then be wool.
Polar cubs are white and soft
They play in the Artic snow.
I’d weigh a thousand pounds when I grow up
That, I’ll be you didn’t know.
A kitten is so very soft
And playful as can be.
I think that I would climb a tree
To see what I could see.
If I were a porcupine
I’d wear quills upon my back.
They’d be there for protection
And as sharp as any tack.
Camels live in deserts
And can travel very far.
I’d have two big humps upon my back
But then I wouldn’t fit in a car.
A gorilla rides on his mother’s back
Until he is nearly three.
I’d live down in a jungle
And climb up in a tree.
A duckling is a baby duck.
“Quack” is what I’d say.
I’d waddle all around the pond
And swim and swim all day.
If I were a raccoon
I’d wear a mask upon my face.
I’d like to climb up in a tree
And run from place to place.
A baby elephant is called a calf
And I’d have a trunk to help me eat.
I could perform in a big circus
And I’d have four enormous feet.
I’d get to sleep all winter long
If woodchuck were my name.
But then I’d miss the snow and ice
And all the winter games.
A hippopotamus would be real nice,
I’d get to swim all day.
My mouth would open very wide
As in the water I would play.
If I were a tiger cub
I’d have whiskers on my chin.
I’d look just like a kitten
You think that we were twins.
A dog would be so very nice.
Then I’d be called a puppy.
I’d romp and play with a bright red ball
And some little child would love me.
Squirrels live in tree tops
And scamper all around.
I’d like to pick-up acorns
And make a funny little sound.
If I were a piglet
I’d run in the mud and splash.
I’d roll around and make mud pies
And I’d never have to take a bath!
I’d still be called a kid
If I were a baby goat.
I’d climb upon a hillside
And wee a white and fluffy coat.
If I were a caterpillar
I’d grow up to be a butterfly.
I would have such pretty wings
That could help me fly up high.
I’d get to ride in mother’s pouch
If I were a kangaroo.
I’d jump so high and run so fast
And I’d never have to wear my shoes.
An opossum makes me laugh a lot.
I’d sleep hanging upside down.
I’d also like to pretend I’m dead.
I’d sure be quite a clown.
A baby bird looks oh so sweet
And flies with tiny wings.
I think I’d live up in a tree
And sing and sing and sing.
If I were a reindeer
I’d run as swiftly as can be.
Within one year I’d have antlers
That would set on top of me.
I’d be called a kitten
If beaver were my name.
I’d chew on trees with my sharp teeth
And play lots of water games.
Young horses are called ponies.
I’d love to run and play.
Perhaps you’d ride upon my back
Then we’d gallop far away.
First I’d ride in mother’s pouch
And then upon her back.
My name would be a koala bear
And have little eyes of black.
It would be great to be an animal.
There are many kinds you see.
But then, how could I read this book.
Now I’m just glad I’m ME!
